Vacuum Cleaner Ratings The Idea of rating products can in a large degree be attributed to that bastion of consumer information, Consumer Reports Magazine. To their credit, this organization doesn't accept advertising from companies to remain as unbiased as possible. The problem however is that if you're a thinking person, you will have an opinion about almost everything. This includes people who rate or review products. Understand however that bias by itself isn't a bad thing if as readers and consumers we understand that the review, rating or comparison results will usually display some of the writers bias. This can easily be seen on many of the television news broadcasts. The established media has continued to point out that FOX News is conservative in it's reporting of the news. Rather than be a negative as the older electronic media desires, this information actually makes it much easier to understand the organizations perspective and reporting characteristics. So the issue of bias isn't a problem as long as it's recognized and understood by us as consumers of the information. It's only a problem when the dispensers of information like mainstream news, CNN etc. claim they have NO bias that we should then consider everything they say suspect. Groups or individuals who claim often rely on our ignorance and hold up a claim of being "professional" and able to eliminate their own personal outlook. These NO BIAS claims however should make us all suspicious of anything stated, reported or written. As with the example of the news, if the established were honest, they would need to disclose that the great majority of their broadcast talent are liberal or Ultra-Liberal in perspective which is out of sync with many in the country. So while there are some very talented people on established newscasts, their claims of no bias due to being professional are statements they ask us to accept at face value. This by itself is cause for suspicion. This then brings us back to rating vacuums and other consumer goods. If you understand the bias of the person providing the information, you're much more likely to find value in their perspective. Now here's my bias. So my preference is to help you think about and consider your needs and requirements then go into the market to find products that meet your needs. While a vacuum may pick up a bowling ball with it's great suction, if clogs easily on Legos and other such toys, it may not be the right one for a family. Likewise, this same high quality unit may be much to heavy to maneuver for an older person. So know what YOU need for YOUR situation and you will find ratings and reviews much more enlightening.
