Vacuum Cleaner Comparison

A Vacuum Cleaner Comparison Guide Can Give you the Basic Information

When anyone approaches the idea of doing a comparison of similar products, it's necessary to understand what is most important to the person doing the reviewing. It's only by knowing what's actually important to the reviewer can you gain real value from the equipment comparisons offered.

Take vacuum cleaners and price. I have a cousin who's the cheapest person you ever knew. I was doing some remodeling at his house once and instead of working he was busy picking up nails and straightening them to save a fraction of a cent! He would look at all the vacuum cleaner comparison reviews then decide the better value based on price alone.

This is NOT the kind of comparison review you need

I'm basically a quality focused type guy. I want the best value for my money though I'm not willing to pay top premium prices unless there's a darn good reason to do so. So there's a trade-off

When doing this vacuum cleaner comparison, I looked at the one thing that eliminates over half the vacuums on the market. I simply did a quick comparison review of the vacuum STYLE Upright vs. Canister Vacuums.

With just a review of this one thing, I was able to remove many of the vacuum cleaners from consideration. See that's the important thing about making a good decision. You need to understand what's important to YOU and start getting rid of any vacuum cleaners that don't meet your needs.

The benefits of an upright in relation to comparing against a canister design vacuum cleaner comes down to two things

1. Convenience and speed to set up and use.
An upright vacuum cleaner is an all in one design. There's no hose, brush and wand attachment, and motor separated like in a canister vac. This makes it easier to quickly get out of the closet, plug it in and vacuum the carpets without any setup.

2. EASE of use.
An upright vacuum is heavier. Because it's all in 1 piece, it's typically heavier to move about than a canister. A canister vacuum cleaner has individual parts that may offer better quality control as they aren't all stuffed into 1 moveable design. Here, the canister vacuum wins the caparison with the upright because of moving weight issue .
In ease of use comparisons, the canister is easier to move about because the heavy motor and much of the mechanics all are in a more or less stationary place. You vacuum using the hose and the wand/beater bar brush attachment.

So in the EASE of use category, the canister vacuum wins the comparison.

These are two of the major considerations when thinking what vacuum cleaner design is right for you. In reading any vacuum cleaners review however, you need to realize that only you can decide what features and benefits in a product are right for you.

If you are in good health and it's not a consideration if the vacuum cleaner is a little bit heavier, then maybe the idea of getting the vacuum out for a fast cleaning really appeals to you. If however, you like the flexibility of the canister and have a more scheduled house cleaning time, then go with the canister.

In the end, the comparison of what's "best" is based on your preference. Personally, I use an upright because I don't like hauling multiple pieces of a vacuum cleaner up and down the stairs. This by itself was enough for me to get an upright.
