consumer guide to vacuum cleaners

A consumer guide to vacuum cleaners

Vacuum Cleaners are basically the same no matter which unit you select and from whatever company you purchase you new vacuum cleaner. This consumer guide is a reality check to offer some additional ideas and thoughts about vacuum cleaner selection.

1. Do not compare vacuum cleaners from different price ranges. If you're looking at a Hoover for 150 dollars, compare it against other vacuums like a Eureka or Electrolux in that same general price category. You won't get an honest assessment of the benefits of either if you're looking at a 1000 dollar vacuum and comparing it against the 150 dollar Hoover.

2. You generally get what you pay for. There's nothing wrong with wanting the lowest price you can find on a quality product. The problem arises when consumers want the CHEAPEST price, pick products only on price then become unhappy because they don't last or aren't as good as expected.

REMEBMER: Shop VALUE which is the best price on a product that will meet you needs. NEVER shop only on price. Price and vacuum cleaner always are related but price and VALUE aren't necessarily the same thing.

Here is a list of features and requirements that can be found in the vacuum cleaner market. It's up to you the consumer to decide which features are most important. It's not the intent of this rating guide to suggest which features are the most important as individual consumer buyers are different with different expectations and needs.

1. Weight How heavy is the vacuum cleaner

2. Bag or Bagless Design Bag vacuum cleaners tend to be a little more quieter though the bag less vacuums don't lose suction.

3. Upright or canister. The is a personal preference. Uprights tend to be a little easier to move from room to room as your clean however.

4. Carpet cleaning only or do you also need hard surface floor cleaning.

5. Quality and Durability. Heavy use in your home should take this feature up to the top of the list.

6. Consumables. Do you care to buy bags and filters throughout the life of the vacuum cleaner? Some people don't want to clean filters and prefer to simply replace them. How about you?

7. HEPA Filtration. If you want the cleanest home possible, HEPA filtration of vacuum cleaner exhaust is your best bet. HEPA captures micron sized dirt and dust particles that can get back into the air and land as dust on your furniture.

8. Multi-Clean Capability. Do you want something just to clean the darn carpets or handle pet hair, cleaning your mattresses for dust mites, dusting pictures on the walls, upholstery etc.

These are just some of the major points you as a consumer need to decide before even starting to shop for a specific vacuum cleaner. By knowing which features and benefits are important to you it's possible to dramatically lower the number of vacuums under consideration. We hope that this consumers guide to vacuum cleaners has helped focus your search towards a vacuum that will satisfy your needs.
