Two Quick Cleaning Tips

Sooner or later, it will be time to take juniors action figures out of the VCR and give your home entertainment center a good cleaning.  While this isn't difficult, care must be taken to be able to re-attach all the cables and wiring.

Electronic Gear:

Most electronics can withstand being wiped down with a damp cloth.  If you have one of the newer CRT or flat screen displays, be certain to check the owners manual for the correct way to clean the screen itself.  The last thing you want is to scratch delicate surfaces. If you want to know how to clean your computer, visit the computer cleaning tips page.

A good dusting or vacuuming under regular basis is also a good idea.  Moisture and best are the two greatest enemies of electronics.  While you may not spill liquids onto your equipment, dust quietly collects on a daily basis.

When vacuuming, used the round brush attachment and do all the air vents and don't forget the stand.  Now, it's also a good time to get a supply of zip ties and organize all the wiring in the back.  A good dusting and vacuuming here would not be a bad idea either.  If you want to do an absolute bang up job mark all the wires and move the individual components so you can clean underneath.

Smoke Detector

Smoke detectors can age, just like everything else in your home.  If your home is older than 10 years old, you may want to consider replacing smoke detectors and so just cleaning up.  In any event, a good cleaning of your smoke detectors may save your life.

The dirt and dust that regularly collects in your home also collects in the venting and on the components inside the smoke detector.  Remove the cover of your smoke contact her and using a can of compressed air blow out all the dust and dirt.  While you may consider using the vacuum cleaner for this, it's possible to damage delicate electronic components making it an operable.  This is the main reason why it's simply a better idea to use the compressed air to clean your smoke detector.

While are on the subject of smoke detectors, you should make it a point to replace the battery at least twice a year.  A good way to remember this is to change the battery  when you change your clocks in the spring time moving ahead in our and in the fall when we moved back away from daylight savings.

While both these tips are great ideas, you should really seriously consider how important cleaning your smoke detector can be for the overall safety of your home.

Now where did you put that fire extinguisher?
