Five Cleaning Tips and Tricks

Five Cleaning Tips and Tricks to get the job done Fast

Here are actually 6 spots that are probably in need to cleaning that could save you money and protect your home investment.

1. REFRIGERATOR Coils:
Behind or under your refrigerator is a set of black coils. These are actually transfer coils meant to remove latent heat from inside your refrigerator. As dirt collects on these coils, it becomes more difficult to transfer the heat from inside the box. The result is your refrigerator works harder than it needs to. They have a liquid that uses pressure to collect heat from inside the box and then transfer that heat to the outside using these coils.

First move your refrigerator out from the wall, and get out the trusty vacuum cleaner. Locate the brush attachment and vacuum the coils to remove collected dust. If your fridge has coils that said at the bottom of the refrigerator, simply remove the plastic grill just below the doors. Your refrigerator will be a lot happier, and so will you, because this can save anywhere from 10 to 20% of the total operating costs.

2. HEATING Floor Vents:
Your Heating Floor Vents Not Only Collect A Lot Of Dust, but Almost Anything That Can Roll through the Cracks. Remove the floor vents and using the vacuum cleaner once again, take the hose and vacuum the floor venting about a foot or two. Next, give them a nice warm bath. Simply take a wet rag and wash them out. Do NOT add a lot of water into the vents because they WILL rust. This will remove most of the dirt and collected debris that may have fallen and over the last couple of years.

While working on the heating system, now would be a good time to prepare for season change by replacing the furnace filter. A dirty furnace filter will cause the airflow to slow, causing the furnace to stay running longer than needs to. This means wasted energy and more costs for you.

3. CLOTHES Dryer:
Remove the Lint Screen and Vacuum out the dirt. If possible, disconnect the flexible exhaust tube or pipe from behind the dryer. Give the tube and pipe a good cleaning. Many house fires are actually caused by a buildup of lint in that exhaust pipe.

4. DISHWASHER:
If you have hard water in your area, you probably have a buildup of deposits inside your dishwasher. The lime and hard water deposits made it harder for the dishwasher to clean your dishes. Go to any hardware store and pick up a bottle of lime remover chemical. The most popular ones or Line-a-Away, and CLR the Calcium-Lime-Rust Remover. The cup or so of the lime removing chemical inside your empty dishwasher, and run as normal. This will remove the hard water buildup. You may also want to run in a second time with clear water, just to make certain that only chemical has been washed out.

5. RAIN Gutters
A wet foundation can do more damage to a home in many other things. That's why it's critical to make certain that the rain gutters and downspouts or clean and ready for the wet season. Make certain that the downspouts move water at least 5 feet away from a house foundation. This will help control mold and water damage and also make for a much drier basement.

6. (BONUS!) VACUUM Your Bed:
Because most of the dust in your home is dead skin cells from the people living there, imagine how dirty your mattress is. The next time that you change sheets, simply run the vacuum with the right attachment over your mattress. You may want to not only clean the talk, but do the sides, and even the box springs.

So there you have it, 5 quick cleaning tips that can save you money on your utility bills.! Five quick and easy cleaning things that you can do to make your house, run better and more efficiently. Number six was an extra, and I'm certain that now that you know, what might be on your your mattress you would want to clean it.
