1. Under the Refrigerator: if you took our advice in clean refrigerator coils, you probably noticed that under the refrigerator. It was pretty disgusting. While it was out, you should have collected all the dirt and dust bunnies, refrigerator magnets, toys and anything else that doesn't belong under there.

2. Window Screen: If you live in an area we're your window screens are always up, they are probably very dirty. This can cause breathing problems for anyone with allergies. Simply remove this the window screen and give them a quick wash and brushing away from the house.

3. Clean out the Clothes Washer: If you followed our suggestion in the earlier article and cleaned out the hard mineral deposits in the dishwasher, you have everything you need to do the same with the washing machine. Simply take a couple of cups of that CLR or Lime-A-Away, put it in the washing machine and run through a cycle with hot water. This will clean out the hard water deposits and build up.

4. Oven: Next take a look at your oven. If it has a build up of old food, it's time to get it cleaned and ready for the holidays. This can be a real energy waster especially if your oven is electric. Most electric ovens and many gas ovens now come with a self cleaning feature. If not, it may be necessary to get oven cleaner to get it cleaned.

I've used some of the more natural non-toxic type of cleaners with good results.

5. Fireplace: if you have a fireplace, chances are it's never been cleaned. If you have a gas fireplace, but it's probably OK. If not, take a look up the chimney and see how clean or dirty it really is. If you see what looks like a dark build up, it may be creosote. Creosote fires are very dangerous, so you should consider hiring a local chimney sweep.

It is possible to clean your chimney is a do-it-yourself job. You will need however, a special brush and handles, a ladder to get on the roof, and an assistant. If you plan to do it yourself, please use appropriate caution and care.
