The Hoover self propelled vacuum sideways is a great vacuum cleaner for an old woman

My mother-in-law has a Hoover self propelled sideways vacuum cleaner. She's 72+ years old and has no problem running it around her home. Of course, that home is all on 1 floor and there's no steps to maneuver over.

Here's some things to think about before buying this vacuum.

1. Although heavy, it's self propelled so why worry about the weight? This is especially true if you live on a single floor of a home. If however you have a second floor, this maybe a concern.

The Hoover self-propelled sideways vacuum can do everything from hardwood floors to throw rugs to area rugs and yes, wall to wall carpet. This makes the machine extremely versatile and easy to use. One caution however is that when the machine does bind up like getting caught on an end or edge of the throw carpet, it can throw off the self propelled belt. This may be a problem if you aren't mechanically inclined

The Hoover self-propelled sideways vacuum also seems to be a better cleaning unit, and many more expensive vacuum cleaners. This may be due to the self-propelled action controlling the speed of the vacuuming. Still, it's clear that this Hoover self-propelled sideways vac is a great all-around machine with few annoyances for the general consumer.

For what it's worth, my mother-in-law has not had any problems with her Hoover vacuum. It could very well be that the use is limited in a home with two older people. Personally I would have reservations about any vacuum cleaner that needs to have a mechanic on site in case of problems. 

My kids vacuum the carpets at our home and were always having problems with even the best vacuum cleaner around. The reason is that no matter how good a vacuum cleaner may be, it still will not move its own power cord out of the way from being vacuumed up.

I guess that in the end, as we've been saying throughout this site, there's no one size fits all type of vacuum cleaner. The Hoover self propelled windtunnel upright vacuums are designed for ease of use and that's important to many... especially if you're a 72+ year old lady. [smile]
